Georgia Golf Cart Manufacturing Worker Killed after Being Trapped under Factory Machinery

WC_1

The horrific story of the death of a Georgia golf cart manufacturing worker is hitting headlines nationwide and serves as a harsh reminder of just how dangerous the manufacturing workplace can turn in an instant. According to WSB-TV Channel 2 News Georgia, the gruesome workplace accident happened last week on Friday, March 8 at the Club Car manufacturing plant on Washington Road in Columbia County, Georgia. The 21-year-old worker and victim, Alyssa Drinkard of Grovetown, Georgia, was working on or near a conveyor belt when she dropped her Apple Airpod wireless headphones. Drinker is said by her co-worker to have bent down to pick up the headphones and retrieve them from under the machine, but she was caught in the machine’s conveyor belt and “became pinned under the machine.” Although Drinkard’s coworker called for help to shut down the machine and take it apart to free Drinkard, and first responders and firefighters arrived on the scene, Drinkard was in bad condition when she was finally freed. Drinkard is said to have not been breathing once first responders were able to cut the metal frame that she was pinned under in order to pull her out. Drinker was rushed to a nearby hospital for life-saving emergency medical treatment, but she, unfortunately, succumbed to her serious injuries on Saturday morning.

Of the tragic and fatal machine-involved accident Club Cart released the following statement:

On Friday evening, a contract labor worker experienced a critical injury while working at our main manufacturing facility in Evans. First responders were immediately notified, and we thank them for their quick response to provide medical care and transportation to the hospital where the worker unfortunately later passed away. Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with the family, friends and all impacted by this loss. We are working with authorities and the contractor in an investigation to determine the facts about what led to the incident.
